Because every forum should have this thread.

I'm listening to the Editors now, Back Room. Right before that: Interpol -Turn on the bright lights.
Thought they were JD copyists and never gave them much attention, but I'm warming up to Interpol now :)
  1.
I love Interpol!! The funny thing about their being compared to JD is that I don't think they'd even heard JD before the media started comparing the two bands. I can't tell much similarity between them instrumentally, but Paul Banks's vocal delivery is sort of similar to Ian's.

I'm listening to a mix of stuff from Velvet Goldmine that was left off the OST - right now it's T. Rex's "Cosmic Dancer."

I don't really hear it either! Same with Editors, when I first heard them they sounded more like an early U2. But their voices, yeah, there's a bit of Ian in there.

    right now: Howling Bells :)
and before that: New Young Pony Club, just great fun synth stuff.. vaguely neworderish, I think.

Count me in on the Interpol love. I'm oddly attracted to Paul Banks even though I find him unattractive. That makes no sense. Anyway...

    I'm listening to Nada Surf.
  2.
I'm listening to Echo & the Bunnymen. I've liked them for a while now, but I have a new appreciation for them after seeing them at Versus Cancer last night (where they did "Ceremony" with Hooky on bass)! I love Ian McCulloch's voice.
  3.
Right now it's a mix of 80's music on my blessed c.d. player. Good God I love that decade...

    ~ DJ FAC 999's Post-Ultimate 80's StarMix ~
    'Poison Arrow' [Trevor Horn Re-Mix]/[ABC]
    'Planet Earth'/[Duran Duran]
'Dancing in Berlin'/[Berlin] *currently listening to at the moment*
    'Relax'/[Frankie Goes to Hollywood]
    'The Telephone Call' [12" Remix]/[Kraftwerk]
    'Let Me Go'/[Heaven 17]
    'Getting Away With It'/[Electronic]
    'She-Bop' [12" Remix]/[Cyndi Lauper]
'Blue Monday' [Warren Lapham Mix]/[New Order] *best mix of BM, EVER!!!*
    'Almost With You'/[The Church]
    'This Charming Man'/[The Smiths]
'The Perfect Kiss' [The 'Substance' Mix]/[New Order]
    'No More Words' [12" Mix]/[Berlin]
    'It's My Life' [12" Mix]/[Talk Talk]

And SPYG!!! How freckin' awesome was it!? Highlights, please!!!

ETA: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! INTERPOL!!!!!!!!!! I have both of their albums. They are so freckin' cool. When I heard Joy Division's 'Atrocity Exhibition' [from 'Closer'] at one point it was like Ian's voice sounded a bit like Paul's.

And honestly, I do think Paul's a hottie. But then again... *innocent whistle, drumming desk with fingers*

'Blue Monday' [Warren Lapham Mix]/[New Order] *best mix of BM, EVER!!!*

    I don't think I know this one?

Would love to hear that version of Ceremony, here's hoping a torrent will surface soon :-)
  4.
Yep, it's my favorite mix of BM. It basically puts--well, it's a surprise. If you loved BM enough that you wished the song wasn't so short ['cause, come on! as if 7 and a half minutes weren't enough!?], dig this.

Hopefully this works--Right click, Save as, Enjoy!

New Order: 'Blue Monday' [Warren Lapham Mix]

And as for today's StarMix, it's my fave NO remixes--

~ New Order ~ Remixed and Rewound ~
Ceremony [The Original Mix--as in, before Gillian came around]
The Beach *currently listening to at the moment*
    Confusion [The Instrumental Mix]
Thieves Like Us [The Instrumental Mix]
    Kiss of Death
    Shellshock [The 12" Remix]
Blue Monday '88 [what I call the '88 Rewind]
    Fine Line
Round & Round [The Club Mix]
Someone Like You [The Futureshock Strip Down Mix]
Everything's Gone Green [The Cicada Remix]
Guilt Is a Useless Emotion [The Mac Quayle Vocal Mix]

Thanks!!! Going to listen to it right now :-)

uh oh, looks like you've got me beat when it comes to remixes.. and I thought I had a lot :D
fave must be the long version of 586, though. Video 586.
  5.
Never heard that remix. *LOL* I mean, I have a whole freckin' slew of remixes, but not a lot. One day I hope that someone would make a remix to TPK in which, in the good ol' grand finale [when all the synths, guitars and whatnot have at it], the finale from KoD [Kiss of Death] would get thrown in there too, so it makes a heck of a long ending. Awfully close to that nine minute take. Or something like that. Or like they could extend the Hooky-vs-drumpad beat down and mix in that section from KoD too. Basically like an ultimate TPK mix, somewhat.

I will admit, I love 586 though. Got PC&L this week [finally], great stuff. That and Movement.

video 586 is a 20 something minute mix done by your Stephen ;*p
Done as background music for a film or documentary, or something...? Oh hold on...wiki

The Hacienda, Factory Records' own nightclub (largely funded by New Order), opened in May 1982 and was even issued a Factory catalogue number: FAC51. This was the UK's first ever superclub. Its opening was marked by a near-23 minute instrumental piece of Steve Morris' making, 'Video 586'; released as a single 15 years later. Peter Hook was later to admit to grievance when he thought New Order 'had gone and done a single' without him.

    I don't know. It's just quirky. I like it.
I'll upload it for you tomorrow.. right now it's just taking too long, darn computer froze when I tried.
  6.
Woohaw!!!!!!!!! Sounds awesome to me, Mari!! Thanks!!
  7.
Thanks for the link, Sunshine! PC&L is great, especially "We All Stand" and "586"! I love Movement too - a lot of people hate it, but it's great for what it is, and it's interesting to hear the transition from JD to NO.

I'm looking forward to Video 586, Mari, but I also understand if your computer isn't being co-operative! :-P

I'm listening to Roxy Music: "Ladytron" (I finally took a break from Echo and the Bunnymen after listening to them almost non-stop!).

listening to gang of four now.
  8.
Listening to Video 586 right now. And it absofreckin'lutely ROCKS!

*sigh* Mr. Morris, if you're reading this, you're the best remixer on earth, I don't care what anyone says!

Gillian, if you're reading this, you're the luckiest woman on earth. *grin*
  9.
    Downloading as we speak! Thanks!!

Gang of Four is good stuff! I'm listening to Scritti Politti - "Small Talk."

^maybe you could give me some recommendations then? because the GOFstuff I've been checking out doesn't do much for me :o

stone roses- I wanna be adored
    I LOVE that song.
  10.
I love "IWBA" too!! Seeing the video for that a few years ago made me run out and buy The Stone Roses as soon as I could.

Hmm, have you been listening to stuff from Entertainment?. That's probably my favourite of their albums. Here are a few things on YouTube that I'd recommend:
What We All Want (one of my favourites, so funky!)
To Hell with Poverty (Is it just me or had David Byrne seen this by the time Talking Heads did Stop Making Sense?)

I'm listening to Echo & the Bunnymen, "The Cutter."

thanks, I'll check that out :-) Not yet though, I'm still playing Interpol, can't get enough of them.
    like E&theB!

wow, really similar tastes here. So different from some of the other boards I post on sometimes.

ok, those two tracks were GREAT.
I'd advise you to avoid the "return the gift" album then, because it sounded like some bad hard rock to me, at first listen!
going to look for Entertainment now..
  11.
Currently I'm listening to what I call the Gothic side of New Order--

~ The Earliest of the Gothic: New Order '80-'81 [or '82 if the last track came out in '82, my memory's a bit shot] ~
    Ceremony [with Gillian Gilbert]
    In a Lonely Place
    Procession
    Cries and Whispers
    Dreams Never End
    Truth
    Senses
    Chosen Time
    ICB
The Him *currently listening to at the moment*
    Doubts Even Here
    Denial
    Everything's Gone Green

*here's a good note about this: the c.d.'s about an hour long, surprisingly how the entire FAC-50 [album: 'Movement'] fit onto the mix!*
  12.
Mari - Huzzah! Yeah, I haven't heard it, but I heard that Return the Gift isn't too good.

Sunshine - Yeah, Movement is only, what, 35 minutes long? Have you read this article about restructuring the track sequence of Movement?

Oh, and I'm listening to The Cure, "Lullaby." I'm not as familiar with them as I should be, but a friend lent me a CD and I'm liking it!
EDIT: I can see how "In Between Days" sounds like a NO rip-off, though! lol
  13.
Heh, I thought the song Dreams Never End sounded a bit like the Cure or early-as-heck R.E.M., but with Hooky singing instead of Robert Smith or Michael Stipe. *chuckle*

I'm listening to Happy Mondays, "24 Hour Party People," because I just finished watching the film and it put me into a mindset to listen to them!

  15.
I love the Charlatans!! They were amazing at Versus Cancer. But I don't know that song. :-P

I'm listening to Cocteau Twins, "Heaven or Las Vegas."
  16.
Currently listening to the Earliest of the Goth NO mix, 'Procession' is on. *grin*

"Blonde Waltz" is my favorite Charlatans song....check it out.

I'm playing The Pogues right now..."A Pair of Brown Eyes"
  17.
Will do! A friend of mine recommended the album it's on. My all-time favourite Charlatans songs are "The Only One I Know" and "Sonic."

I'm listening to Tony Wilson on the radio - he's talking about how Sgt. Pepper is being re-recorded by a bunch of different bands. Sounds kind of sketchy to me! :-P

I think they should leave Sgt. Pepper be.
  18.
I'm listening to the new album by VNV Nation [whom I got to see in concert last night]!!
  19.
I agree, Jen! Not surprisingly, the Killers are one of the bands reportedly covering a song on there...considering how "Shadowplay" turned out, maybe they should stick to their own stuff! :-P Other bands I remember are Oasis and the Kaiser Chiefs.

Sunshine, I'm not familiar with VNV Nation, how was the concert?

I'm listening to Cocteau Twins, "I Wear Your Ring." A friend of mine lent me the CD it's on, and it's gorgeous!

Ah The Killers. I don't mind their music too much but they need to stop covering people.
  20.
The concert absofreckin'lutely ROCKED!!! I had an awesome time. Holy cow, the afterparty was insane too. Got to meet the band. Great guys! *grin/thumbs up*

One interesting thing--VNV Nation's an industrial group, just two guys [Ronan--lyrics, music and vocals, Markus--drums]. For the tour they had Ronan with the vocals, Markus on drums, and two guys on keyboards [one of them is Italian, I forgot his name!]. One of the guys, Andre, is from Germany and kinda-sorta looks like Steve! Guess my eyes were kinda on him for most of the night! *giggle*

The afterparty was at a club which was less than 5 minutes walking from the hotel I was staying in. I got to meet the band. And yes, I promise, I *WILL* post pictures up this week!! [Yes, including me with Mr. Stephen-look-a-like!]

I told Andre he kinda-sorta looked like Steve, and he asked if that was a good thing, to which I replied 'Yes!' He thought that was pretty cool--he likes NO too!!

Oh and, his first concert was when he was 14: Depeche Mode. Germany. Awesome!

    *happy daydreamy sigh*
  21.
On my MySpace, at the pictures, there's an album titled 'Good Friday 2007', which has the pics of me with the guys from VNV Nation. And you can giggle and oogle at Andre, who, like I said, looks like Steve! :-D

In the meantime, I'm listening to the mix aptly titled 'Happily Ever Somewhere...?'

    'April Fools' [Rufus Wainwright]
    'Krafty' [New Order]
    'Transmission' [Joy Division]
    'Pass in Time' [Beth Orton]
    'Don't Change' [INXS]
'Tasty Fish' (12" Mix) [The Other Two]
'So Much To Say' [The Dave Matthews Band]
    'Get Away' [Train]
    'Little Thoughts' [Bloc Party]
'Different Names for the Same Thing' [Death Cab for Cutie]
'The Ghost in You' [The Psychadelic Furs]
    'In Your Eyes' [SR-71]
    'Please Forgive Me' [David Gray]
'Consider This Summer' [Rookie of the Year]
'I Will Not Take These Things for Granted' [Toad the Wet Sprocket]
    'Beloved' [VNV Nation]
  22.
I'm listening to Tears for Fears' "Head Over Heels." It's just one of those songs that makes me happy! I need that right now
  23.
    K-R-A-F-T-W-E-R-K-! *nod*
  24.
I'm listening to Ash, "Gone the Dream." It makes me verklempt!
